Questions:
1. In 15 words or less give a personal mission statement.
2. In 50 words or less, if elected, what do you hope to accomplish as a regional officer?
3. In 50 words or less, what event from the Torah describes your life?
Answers:
Josh Cooper:
1. To serve the region, to empower the individual, to teach, and to learn from everybody.
2. Rel/Ed has positives and negatives. Some love it and some hate it. I also believe that there is a connection between people’s knowledge about Judaism and their appreciation of it. I hope to educate all USYers in an exciting way and in doing so make Rel/Ed more enjoyable for everybody.
3. Cain and Hevel were the first siblings. Cain killed Hevel out of jealousy that God preferred Abel’s offering. I have four brothers. Sibling rivalry hasn’t been quite like this (except for that one time…), but I have grown up loving Judaism and wish to help you share in this love.
Ezra Margolin:
1. My mission is to have everyone become as enthusiastic about Jewish learning as I am.
2. If elected, I hope to increase enthusiasm for religion and education. I will encourage chapters to do more Judaism-based events, including USY-led services at synagogue and Kabbalat Shabbat at local nursing homes. I will also try to increase involvement in services at regional events by rewarding participants with sugary comestibles.
3. My life is analogous to Akedat Yitzhak because it is always a conflict of priorities. As Abraham placed his loyalty to God above that to his son, I place my commitment to USY above all other responsibilities, and I am willing to make sacrifices to display my devotion to USY.
